Course Overview

This Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Champions course is an internationally recognised awareness programme that equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental ill health, and to offer timely, supportive first aid assistance until appropriate professional help is available.

Course Content

The course covers:

  • Understanding mental health and mental ill health
  • The Mental Health Continuum
  • Recognising signs and symptoms of common conditions (such as anxiety, depression, stress, and crisis situations)
  • The role and responsibilities of a Mental Health First Aider
  • The MHFA action plan for providing initial support
  • Active listening and communication skills
  • Boundaries, confidentiality, and self-care
  • Signposting to professional and community support services
