Course overview
Develop the practical skills and technical knowledge needed for a career in the mechanical engineering industry. You’ll learn how to work with machines and engineering systems, covering areas such as maintenance, fabrication, machining and mechanical principles, while building the confidence to progress into employment, an apprenticeship or further study.
Alongside your main course, you will also develop a broad understanding of clean energy technologies, providing valuable insight into the rapidly evolving low-carbon sector. This includes an introduction to carbon capture technologies, hydrogen awareness, hydrogen refuelling systems, and the principles of electrolysis, helping you build a strong foundation in the key technologies driving the transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
On our mechanical course you will develop theoretical knowledge in health & safety, basic power tools/hand tools, mechanical principles and engineering maths. Alongside practical training in different mechanical disciplines including, design and draughting using computer aided design (CAD), mechanical installations, bench fitting, cutting and shaping, turning and milling.
Course information
Carrying out practical assessments and multi-choice tests in a realistic industrial working environment.
Progression on to a higher level engineering qualification which could then lead onto an engineering apprenticeship.
GCSE in English, maths and science at grades 4 or above or equivalent level 2.
