Course Overview
This course provides an update and refresh knowledge and skills of electrical and instrument apparatus within potentially explosive gas atmospheres.
Course Content
The course covers the following key topics:
- Refresher on hazardous area legislation and standards
- Review of hazardous area classification (Zones 0, 1 and 2)
- Explosion protection concepts and protection methods
- Equipment selection, certification and marking
- Installation practices for hazardous area equipment
- Inspection grades, techniques and reporting
- Identification of defects and non-compliant installations
- Maintenance requirements and safe working practices
- Practical inspection and fault identification exercises
- Competence validation assessment (theory and practical)
Certification
· CompEx Renewal Certificate of Core Competence (valid for 5 years from the date of issue and must be refreshed before expiry).
Documentation Requirements
CompEx Awarding Organisation requirements state that the following documents are required upon booking:
- Qualification / Certification – NVQ Level 3 / Apprenticeship Deeds / JIB Card or similar.
- Unique Learner Number (ULN) – This is obtained by using the registration link provided by NETA with the booking enquiry
Competence Validation Assessment
- Knowledge Test: Multiple Choice
- Practical Test: Online Installation Simulator Practical Assessment
Please note: In the event of failing any part of the competence validation tests, a failure letter will be issued, and a resit must be booked. Please note that all results are issued by JTL and are not available to NETA. Certification and results times depend on JTL workloads.
Course information
- Personnel pre-registering for RPP courses should have regularly worked in the industry within the last five years, completed some self-study revision, and be able to gland, terminate, inspect, and test a range of cables and equipment. A valid, in-date CompEx Certificate for the corresponding units being refreshed is required.
