The ECITB ITEC programme got underway at NETA today with a visit from some of the ECITB’s team.
Mark Rae, the ECITB’s Account Manager for the North of England and Shashi Ardeshana, ECITB’s Provider Account Manager dropped in to NETA to give the students an introduction to the ITEC programme informing them of the ‘ins and outs’ of the engineering construction industry.
Russell Coleman, NETA’s Business Development Coordinator who has been taking the lead on the ITEC programme said: “We are delighted to be supporting ECITB in delivering this programme which we see as an excellent opportunity for young people as an entry point to an apprenticeship within the engineering construction industry.”
The Introduction to Engineering Construction (ITEC) Programme is a one year course sponsored by the ECITB, giving selected students the relevant skills, knowledge and health and safety awareness required to prepare them for work in the engineering construction sector. The course will be delivered three days per week at NETA’s training centre over the academic year. The students will study for their BTEC Diploma Level 3 covering a variety of practical skills including engineering areas such as electrical, mechanical, fabrication and welding.
The 10 NETA students selected include a mixed group of boys and girls aged 16 to 18 years and those aged 19+. David Laycock, NETA Training’s Programme Area Leader Engineering, said: “Having the support of the ECITB behind them will put these students in front of companies, increasing their chances of moving on to a full apprenticeship.”
