For welding apprentice Jack, the future is looking brighter than ever after being named Apprentice of the Year at The Welding Institute (TWI) Awards.

The award recognises exceptional talent, dedication, and commitment to the welding industry, making it a remarkable achievement for Jack at this early stage in his career. Currently completing his Pipe Welding Apprenticeship with Wood Group and NETA Training, Jack has already demonstrated the skills, work ethic, and enthusiasm that set him apart from his peers.

Coming from a family involved in the trade, welding felt like a natural path. "I chose an apprenticeship in welding because my family are in the trade," Jack explains.

Since starting his apprenticeship, he has embraced every opportunity to learn and develop his skills. From mastering new welding techniques to gaining valuable onsite experience, Jack has built a strong foundation for a successful future in the industry.

The moment he was announced as the winner of the Apprentice of the Year award is one he will never forget.

"I was so excited when I heard my name, to me, this is a big moment in the start of my welding career,” said Jack.

Reflecting on his apprenticeship journey so far, Jack says one of the most rewarding aspects has been working onsite and learning from experienced professionals. Looking ahead, Jack's ambition is clear: to become a highly skilled and versatile welder who can excel across different projects and environments.

His success also highlights the value of apprenticeships in developing the next generation of industry talent. When asked what advice he would give to young people who are unsure about their future, Jack encouraged them to consider the apprenticeship route as there are many benefits to this education route.

Winning TWI Apprentice of the Year is a significant achievement and a well-deserved recognition of Jack's hard work, determination, and passion for the trade. With his talent, attitude, and drive to keep learning, this award is undoubtedly just the beginning of an exciting career in welding.
