NETA’s mechanical assessor Steve Burns, and learning coach Simon Bonas, made their way up Ben Nevis to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK.

Previously serving with 5131 Bomb Disposal in Northern Ireland, some of Steve’s colleagues lost their sight in service and so the charity is one that is close to his heart.

Blind Veterans UK aims to provide free support and services to vision-impaired ex-Armed Forces and National Service personnel.

The highest mountain in the UK, the summit of Ben Nevis 1,345 metres above sea level and the highest land in any direction for 459 miles.

Simon said: “We both climbed Ben Nevis exactly 11 years ago and decided to see if we could still do it.”

Catching up with Simon and Steve after a well-deserved relaxing weekend, Steve said: “We are still very tired and sore but it was such a good sense of achievement. The climb went really well, we made it to the summit and back safely.”

Together the duo raised over £300 which they donated to Blind Veterans UK. Steve, a serving Army Reservist, completed the climb in his uniform.

Well done, the full team at NETA are proud of your achievements.
