Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships or Advanced Apprenticeships are designed to train young people for industry, ensuring that they achieve their potential by gaining recognised qualifications and relevant workplace skills.
If you feel ready to start work then an apprenticeship could be the right choice for you. At NETA, we offer apprenticeship training in a range of area's including Electrical, Mechanical, Welding and much more. We also work with more than 500 businesses, so we know what employers are looking for in their new recruits. We can help match you with employers who are looking for an apprentice, as part of our application, testing and interview process. Alternatively you may find a sponsor company who is willing to take you through your apprenticeship.
Once you have found a company, we will set up a detailed training plan which will be in line with both the company’s and the external awarding body’s requirements and in line with the applicable apprenticeship standard. This is to ensure you achieve your full apprenticeship standard.
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a training programme that takes place whilst employed and leads to accredited qualifications that are studied for alongside employment. Apprenticeships are a great route into employment whilst forging a career path for the future.
Learners on an apprenticeship programme spend most of their time working with their employer with off the job training completed at college, often on a day-release basis. The amount of hours spent at college will vary depending on the apprenticeship level and type as well as the needs of the employer.
Who are they for?
Apprenticeships are open to anyone over 16 years of age. You could be a school leaver starting your career journey or a working professional looking to make a career change. You could even be employed and looking to upskill and progress within your organisation or prepare for your next challenge.
Before starting an apprenticeship, learners must secure a job role that matches their chosen apprenticeship course.
Whilst on an apprenticeship programme, learners will earn National Minimum Wage for apprentices which is £4.15 per hour* for those aged 19 and under as well as those aged 19 or over studying on their first year of an apprenticeship. National minimum wages criteria applies thereafter.
*Subject to change. Correct as of 1st April 2020.
National Apprenticeship Week
At NETA we support National Apprenticeship week each year and we fill the week with great activities such as employer talks, site visits and apprenticeship open events where we bring in employers to talk to prospective students and their parents about the benefits of an apprenticeships.
Check out our recap video about the fun things we did for National Apprenticeship week 2019.
