Flame Cutting Skills Course

To enable the participant to achieve a high degree of competency and knowledge of the safe working practices in Oxy/Gas Flame Cutting.

The course can be held at NETA or on sites where there are suitable facilities and equipment.

No previous knowledge of flame cutting is required.

Course Duration
The course will be between one and three days, dependent on the practical content. It can be tailored to suit the particular needs of the client.

Maximum Number
4 persons. By special arrangement a slight increase or decrease in the numbers can be accommodated.

Training Aids
Lecture notes, audio-visual presentation, demonstrations, practice and specific items of cutting equipment.

Visual inspection of the learners practical work samples.

On successful completion of the course candidates will receive a NETA certificate. The certificate will be sent directly to the delegate or their sponsor company.

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Identify and storing cylinders safely

  • Identify, selecting and assembling Flame Cutting equipment

  • Select the correct nozzle size and gas pressures

  • Use Flame Cutting equipment to cut a variety of shapes and sections

  • Safe assembly

Flame Cutting

  • Lighting and shutting down procedures

  • Practice in Flame Cutting techniques

Practical Work

  • Using the equipment to flame cut a variety of steel selections and components


  • Assessment of the course will be the visual inspection of produced test specimens using flame cutting techniques.
