NETA was set up in 1975, as a charitable group training association, offering quality training for engineering construction companies based in the Northern Region. Since its inception the company has gained recognition as one of the UK ’s largest vocational training providers and, through it’s pro-active policy and programme of continuous improvement, now offers a diverse range of services to many other occupational sectors outside of engineering.
NETA goes to great lengths to ensure that it is at the forefront of developments in terms of technology and facilities in order that the customers can be totally confident that courses are based on the most up to date information and regulations available. Passionate about raising the profile of the North East, NETA is often the forerunner in the delivery of new ground-breaking training, regularly the first to invest in the training needs of today and instrumental in bringing to the area training courses previously unavailable to the local workforce.
The company has steadily grown from a small specialist-training provider with a single facility to one of the largest providers in the North of England with centres spread over three geographical sites within the Teesside area. In addition, many courses are now delivered at clients’ own premises either in the UK or abroad, and the majority of NETA’s programmes are customised, to reflect the specific requirements of the client.
Although much of the training delivered by NETA is customised, the company is accredited by a number of awarding bodies such as ECITB, City & Guilds, CITB, NASC, RTITB, and offers training geared to National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s).
In the 29 years of it’s existence NETA has gained considerable experience in developing and delivering well planned directed learning. The integration of working rigs and simulated site activity into the learning process maximises the effective use of resources and creates a realistic learning experience for individuals. A major strength has been the ability of the Centre to develop learning programmes, which meet specific client requirements rather than limiting choice to standard course activity.
NETA has developed its range of services to a level that meets the needs of over 2500 companies per year and it’s current portfolio can offer candidates training in areas ranging from AutoCAD and IT, Health & Safety, Transport, Warehousing, Fork Lift Truck Driving, Call Centre, Hospitality and Catering to Electrical, Welding, Mechanical Engineering, Scaffolding, Gas, Instrumentation and Electronics.
However regardless of the continuous growth in other areas, engineering remains as one of our core business areas.
In 2001 the Government announced its intention to establish Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVE). These were to be organisations which would have the facilities, skills, experience and range of provision to deliver training and learning to a specific occupational sector. Cove is a National initiative funded by the Learning and Skills Council. It plays a vital role in the LSC’s drive to create a workforce that matches the best in the world by 2010 and will focus on the meeting employer’s skills needs in priority areas.
NETA has extended and maintained practical training facilities whilst many have moved away from such resources. This commitment to vocational training resulted in NETA one of only 14 non further education colleges to have it’s development plan accepted, being approved as the first Centre of Vocational Excellence for Engineering Construction.
