To advise delegates of their legal duties and responsibilities as Supervisors, Managers or Employers under the requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations (2002).

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this training course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the aims and objectives of the COSHH Regulations.
  • Appreciate the need to control exposure to hazardous substances which is under the employer’s control.
  • Undertake an assessment of all work which is liable to expose any employee to hazardous solids, liquids, dusts, fumes, vapors, gases or micro-organisms.
  • Appreciate the need for Supervisors, Managers or Employers to provide information, instructions and training to employees about the risks and precautions to be taken.
  • Understand the legal requirements regarding the compilation and implementation of satisfactory control procedures, provided in compliance with the COSHH Regulations.

Assessing the Risk to Employees

  • Responsibility and procedures for undertaking an assessment
  • How information is collected, retained and updated
  • Communicating information to employees
  • Assessment records
  • How to follow through actions from assessments

Implementation of Control Measures and Procedures

  • What action should be taken after assessment
  • Controlling exposure to hazardous substances
  • Monitoring and health surveillance
  • Reporting procedures
  • How to record and maintain data
  • Use of personal health data in interpreting risks
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Respiratory Protective Equipment

  • Examination and testing of LEV systems
  • Practical experience of monitoring airborne pollutants by using KOMYO KITTAGAWA gas detection equipment.
  • Delegates will also be given practical training in completing Substance Identification Records and extracting information from Hazard Data Sheets.
