BASIC ELECTRICAL REVISION

AIM
To give candidates the necessary refresher training, skills and knowledge required to sit the AM2 Skill Test.

Pre-Requisite
Delegates must be in an electrical apprenticeship or undertaking an electrical qualification which requires the AM2 Skill Test.

Lecture notes, audio visual presentation, models and simulation rigs.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Carry out suitable safe isolation techniques to the standard required by the EAW Regulations 1989
  • Follow suitable inspection and testing techniques for the requirements of the AM2 test
  • Apply a logical approach to fault finding
  • Understand various types of circuits
  • Practice the practical aspects that will be assessed in the AM2 Skills Test

COURSE SYLLABUS

Isolation

  • Safe isolation and de-isolation techniques as prescribed by the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

Inspection and Testing

  • Inspection
  • Continuity of protective conductors including main and supplementary bonds
  • Continuity of ring final circuit conductors
  • Installation resistance
  • Polarity
  • Earth fault loop impedance
  • Functional testing – RDC’s
  • Electrical drawing symbols to include basic D.O.L. motor control circuit
  • Logical approach to fault finding

  • Distribution boards
  • Steel conduit
  • Mineral insulated cable
  • Motor circuit
  • Emergency light circuit
  • Intermediate lighting circuit
