TEC SKILLS

Accessable Training Initiative

TECSkills - Training in Engineering Construction Skills - is a route to skills and qualifications for the engineering construction industry.

The growing need for a skilled and qualified workforce has led to the development of this  training scheme initiated by the Engingeering Construction IndustryTraining Board (ECITB).

As an ECITB approved centre NETA delivers nominated coach training and support as well as carring out candidate assessments.

 Overview of TECSkills

TECSkills has been designed to make training more accessible both for new starters to the industry and for existing skilled and semi skilled craftspersons to develop their skills. The objective of TECSkills is to provide a training route which develops the individuals' skills and knowledge and brings them up to a level of skill which is directly mapped against N/SVQs. It is also an effective route to N/SVQs for people who have not taken a formal apprenticeship, and to help them gain recogition for the skills they have developed.

A Flexible Scheme

TECSkills is a flexible training scheme for craft and other site operatives that is unit-based. It covers specific elements of individual trades as well as common elements, which include good working practices and site safety. It may be

used for basic training of new entrants, or  to enhance the skills of existing site-base staff. A range of grants is available to support the programme.

In addition, occupationally competent Coaches will facilitate the learner’s training. This also means that the learner has a direct learning resource.

TECSkills offers three ways to train to enhance and develop your skills. Training can be arranged off the job at NETA, it can be offered on the job at the learners place of work, or it can be a combination of both.

Routes to skills

The TECSkills programme can be used by a variety of people within the industry but is predominantly aimed at:

  • Existing workforce
  • New entrants
  • Apprentices

Although TECSkills is available to all of the above, the individual must be employed by a company in the first instance whether the company in inscope or not.

 Stages to the process

Step 1 – Registration of learners
Step 2 – Measurement of attainment
Step 3 – N/SVQ Assessment and verification
Step 4 – TECSkills Certification
