Joining Jeff Stelling’s March for Men was no walk in the park for NETA instructor Rob Hardy.

The 49-year-old joined the TV sports presenter in day 14 of his mammoth 400 mile challenge.

Tackling 27.3 miles in one day, a team of volunteers walked with Jeff from Darlington Football Club to Middlesbrough FC and then on to Hartlepool United as they raised money for Prostate Cancer UK.

“It’s not easy!” said Rob as they stopped to draw breath at the Riverside Stadium, but over the half way mark he added: “The camaraderie is amazing, everybody helps to keep each other going.”

No stranger to a spot of fundraising, Rob is vice chairman of The Ellen Timney Foundation, a North-east charity supporting sick and underprivileged children in the region.

Every year he helps to raise thousands of pounds for the charity, as well as collecting toys and gifts.

“I know how difficult fundraising can be. Other people do so much to help our charity. This was a way of giving something back and to say thank you for everything people do for us.”

Feeling confident he could manage the bumper trek he said: “I probably regularly walk about 30 miles playing golf on a weekend.”

Plus the gas instructor from Sedgefield said it was an amazing opportunity to march alongside the Gillette Soccer Saturday presenter.

Hartlepool United fan Jeff, who is originally from the town, raised funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK last year when he walked 10 marathons in 10 days from Hartlepool to Wembley Stadium.

In this, his latest challenge, he is taking in more than 40 football clubs as he walks from St James’ Park in Exeter to St James’ Park in Newcastle.

Rob said: “Jeff has been really good and really approachable. We have had a couple of chats along the way.

“I know people who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and a lot of people have similar stories. This has been a great chance to do something to help.”
